Ethiopia born Liya Kebede was discovered by a model agency at the age of 18 while she was still at school in France. She was then sent to Paris, subsequently embarking on a career in New York and appearing on the cover of Vogue 3 times.
When it comes to cinema, Liya is no amateur. She has starred in various feature-films, including The Good Shepherd in 2006, alongside Matt Damon and Angelina Jolie, and Desert Flower in 2006.
As well as being an international supermodel, Liya also dedicates herself to humanitarian causes. She was appointed as the WHO's Goodwill Ambassador for Maternal, Newborn and Child health, before going on to create her own organisation, The Liya Kebede Foundation, which is aimed especially at raising funds for hospitals worldwide.
Creator of her own clothing label, Lemlem, the designer draws attention to the talents of African craftsmen. Ambitious, discerning and kind-hearted, in 2011 Liya was chosen to be a L'Oréal spokesperson.
