Andie MacDowell was born Rosalie Anderson "Andie" MacDowell on April 21, 1958, in Gaffney, South Carolina. At 5'8", Andie began her career modeling for such luminaries as L'Oreal and Calvin Klein. She worked for Vogue, and appeared in advertisements for Yves Saint Laurent and Vassarette, Armani perfumes and Bill Blass, among others. It was through one of her billboard advertisements and television commercials that she was given her acting break.
She began acting when she got a part in Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, then later in Sex, Lies and Videotape with James Spader, and then Four Weddings and a Funeral. She appeared in St. Elmo's Fire, and The Secret of the Sahara, among many others.
Andie MacDowell has won many awards, including Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead, Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Actress, Saturn Award for Best Actress, and the Goldene Kamera Award for Best International Actress. She was nominated many times for her work, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, New York Film Critics Circle (3rd place), and National Society of Film Critics Award (3rd place).
After taking some time off to be with her three children, Andie MacDowell returned to acting in 2010 in the teen drama, Jane By Design. She then secured her own series on the Hallmark Channel playing a small town judge. Throughout the years, Andie MacDowell has appeared in or starred in many fine productions both on television and on the big screen.
Andie MacDowell was married to Paul Qualley from 1986 to 1999, then married to businessman, Rhett Hartzog from 2001 to 2004.
