I want to get my hair colored and highlighted. Should I have the treatments the same day or should I space them out?

From a hairdresser's opinion, its easier to color and highlight your hair at the same time. Lets say you had sandy blonde hair but planned to dye your hair dark brown with platinum blonde streaks - The hairdresser would put the blonding solution on the bits you wanted blonde, wrap them up in foil (to get them out of the way, while the color develops) and color the rest of your hair dark brown. It would take alot longer if you dyed your hair dark first, and then had to try and bleach bits of your hair that had just been freshly dyed. It's much easier to bleach your natural hair, pre-dyed hair. The only time you might have to space out treatments is if you had really really dark hair (like black asian hair) and wanted to go really blonde! That might take a couple of bleaching sessions and mostly for the sake of your scalp, you'd want to space them over a couple of days. Regular trims, every 8-10 weeks, will keep your hair looking good and get rid of any split ends. On average your hair grows about half an inch every month. So if you're keeping your hair the same length you would get about that much trimmed off. If you are trying to grow your hair, just get a smaller amount cut off. Trims are very important though! Damage to the hair starts at the end of the hair follicle and works its way up. The only way to keep your hair healthy is to regularly trim off the damaged ends. Is your hair naturally curly or wavy? Do you wash/wet your hair in the morning? My hair always sticks up at weird angles when I first get up out of bed. I find the only way to get it to sit naturally is to wash or wet it again in the morning and let it dry naturally. Or something I'll blow dry into the style I like. And use just a little product to keep it in place. Unfortunately if your hair has a natural curl to it, and you don't want them, you will have to use a combination of hair styling tools (straighteners, hair dryers) and product. |
