Windswept updo tutorial for fine hair

Whip up a storm...
Whip up a storm...

This season's windswept trend is great for several different reasons. It flatters most face shapes, it's easy to do and it doesn't require clean hair – in fact, dirty roots make styling easier! The thing is, windswept hairstyles need plenty of volume which can be difficult to maintain with naturally fine hair... unless you're equipped with the right products!

A little preparation and the right styling techniques can be the difference between a style that stands out from the crowd and one that just falls flat. Luckily, that doesn't have to be too difficult...

What you need:

Advanced Hairstyle BOOST IT Volume Inject Mousse
Blow-dryer
Advanced Hairstyle BOOST IT High Lift Creation Spray
Fine-tooth comb
Bobby pins
Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Bold Control Hairspray

Step one: After washing and towel-drying the hair, apply Volume Inject Mousse evenly throughout. Blow-dry your hair on a medium heat setting then, once it's about 90% dry, flip your head upside down to dry the rest. This sounds completely ridiculous but it actually helps to lift hair at the roots, making a huge difference when styling anything with a lot of height later on.

Step two: Once dried, part your hair to one side. Go for whichever one looks and/or feels best, it's all up to you!

Step three: Spray the roots with High Lift Creation Spray and tease to build yet more height. The spray has a matte finish and gives plenty of hold. Keep adding more as you backcomb your way around your head, focusing on the top and crown especially.

Step four: Lightly smooth the hair back and pin into a bun or French twist – whichever you prefer. Once secured, use your fingertips to lightly muss the top and sides.

Step five: Finally, complete the look with a generous mist of Bold Control Hairspray to hold your windswept style in place for up to 24 hours. And you're done!

Happy styling!
