With the 2014 Awards Season now in full swing, we're busy trying to decide which red carpet looks to make our own, courtesy of some gorgeous celebrities including L'Oréal Paris spokesmodel Blake Lively. The Gossip Girl is known for having some of the best hair in show business and in 2013 she really earned her stripes at all manner of star-studded events. Whether up or down, her golden tresses always look fantastic, making her a great source of inspiration for the rest of us mere mortals.
Two of her best looks to date include Hollywood waves - a delightful example of what classic, old-school glamor can really bring to the table - and a more modern bubble ponytail. Both of these styles illustrate just how well Blake can pull of a chic red carpet beauty look, whether her crowing glory is pinned up or left loose.
The big question is: are updos better than down dos or are down dos better than updos?
Both!
Ultimately, updos and down dos are so very different that it's kind of hard to compare them.
Updos are perhaps the better option for creating instant glamor with a few carefully placed bobby pins and a whole lot of hairspray because, with a loose style, working hair into sleek submission can take just as much time and produce less of a wow factor. Updos also allow a little more flexibility for styling different silhouettes and generally getting more creative. Just remember to keep Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Bold Control Hairspray close by!
That said, Blake's Hollywood waves are proof that time spent smoothing, curling and fixing a loose hairstyle can be totally worth it. It's also a great style for showing off the length of her hair, as well as how enviably shiny and perfect it is. (Don't worry, you can cheat your way to the same look with a little help from Advanced Hairstyle's SLEEK IT Strand Smoother Serum Spray.)
All up (or down!) to you
Maybe we've just been dazzled by the light-reflecting brilliance of Blake Lively's hair but we think it's a great idea to try both up and down dos when you need a glamorous party look. After all, Awards Season will continue for several weeks yet so you have plenty of time to experiment.
If, however, you know for sure that you prefer one style over the other, cast your vote above!
