Accidentally leaving your scalp to get sunburned is one of the most annoying, not to mention uncomfortable things about summer, but sometimes it's inevitable. Of course, protecting your scalp from the sun with a hat, headscarf or a cleverly styled updo hairstyle is always best, but those things aren't always an option and occasionally your head gets frazzled.
So, what can you do to soothe a sunburned scalp?
1/ Change your part
If you're sunburned along your part, try moving it for a little while. Not only will this hide the painful red streak, it'll also protect the damaged area from getting burned again while it's healing.
2/ Use a moisturizing shampoo
While your scalp is getting over sunburn, swap your clarifying, smoothing and volumizing shampoos for a moisturizing product. Burned, damaged skin needs as much moisture as you can give it, wherever it is on your body!
3/ Don't scratch
As it heals, your scalp will itch and peel, but whatever you do, don't scratch it! Leave it alone to avoid further inflammation, or any possible infection that could occur as a result of whatever might be under your fingernails.
4/ Avoid heat styling
When styling your hair, try to avoid heat tools as much as possible. A hot flat iron or a warm blast from your blow-dryer can be very painful, and it could further damage your skin. Instead, use texturizing products like Advanced Hairstyle TXT IT Tousle Waves Spray and some heat-free air drying techniques instead. Summer is all about natural beauty anyway!
