During the summer, your hair is especially prone to breakage for all kinds of reasons. It's more vulnerable due to stressors like UV exposure, sea salt, chlorine and humidity all conspiring to weakens your strands. Fortunately, there are a couple of ways to prevent breakage to keep your hair happy and healthy all summer long.
Condition your hair (all the time)
Keeping your hair well hydrated with plenty of conditioner is one of the best ways to prevent breakage during the summer. Dry hair is way more prone to snapping off than well moisturized strands, so don't hesitate to treat parched ends to a hair mask, leave-in products, and, of course, a post-shampoo conditioner.
No, really, keep conditioning
Before swimming in the sea, saturate your hair with water, then apply a deep conditioner from roots to ends to stop your hair absorbing salt water. Similarly, when you get out of a swimming pool, rinse your hair then apply a leave-in conditioner to keep it nourished after the chlorine.
Get your hair trimmed
While it may be tempting to leave your hair to its own devices until the end of the summer, skipping regular trims allows plenty of time for any damaged or split ends to spread. This can lead to breakage further up the hair shaft. So, stick to a 6-8 week trim schedule to keep your ends healthy and less likely to break off.
