A hairstyle comprised of big, retro curls reminds us of the pre-war era and Katherine Hepburn. This look is a statement-making style that looks glamorous, slightly wild, and manages to feel both classic and modern at the same time. These retro locks look just as good on shoulder length hair as they do on long hair, so why not give it a go?
Wet hair, curl mousse, a blow-dryer, hairspray, and a curling iron.
Step one: After towel-drying hair, apply a generous amount of curl mousse and blow-dry until hair is mostly dry.
Step two: Part your hair in the center and, on each side of your head, twist the two sections into loose buns (think Princess Leia). Blow dry until completely dry.
Step three: Let the buns loose and run your fingers through to separate the curls.
Step four: This is an optional step, but you can use a curling iron for extra volume or definition. Use a medium-sized barrel to curl random sections of hair all over, starting just above ear level.
Step five: Run your fingers through your hair one more time to make the curls appear more natural. Spritz medium-strength hairspray all over for extra hold. And you're done!
This hairstyle works really well dressed up with full-on evening wear but can also be used to add a little extra polish to a more casual weekend look. It all depends on how you're feeling.
