Sleek or Crimped - Which Ponytail Do Your Choose?

A ponytail is a very versatile hairstyle. It suits women of all ages, can be styled in a variety of ways and worn to any occasion.

We know about dozens of ponytail hairstyles, both contemporary and vintage. However, the two variations of this simple hairstyle that totally have our hearts are sleek pony and crimped pony.

Sleek Ponytail

It's chic, classic and a glamor event staple. We frequently see celebrities and fashionistas sport a sleek ponytail at red carpet events, award nights and lavish social galas.

The charm of this hairstyle lies in its simplicity and polished finish. It's very easy to create with medium length tresses and can be worn with or without a hair part.

How to Create a Sleek Pony

To create a sleek ponytail, apply a generous amount of strand-smoother serum spray through your hair to make it straight, soft and silky. Brush your hair thoroughly to detangle knots and allow the product to spread evenly across your mane. Spritz some heat protectant spray along the length of your hair before flat ironing it.

When done, gather your straight hair at the nape of your neck, or on the side and secure it with an elastic. Finally, apply some styling gel on your hair to tame flyways and lend your hairstyle a glossy finish.

Crimped Ponytail

Often seen on fashion runways, a crimped ponytail adds an element of fun to a regular pony. Crimped hair adds texture and dimension to your mane, making it look fuller.

The best thing about crimped ponytails is that you don't even require a hair crimper to create a beautiful texture. All you need to do is master the art of braiding (yes, you read that right!) to nail this hairstyle!

How to Create a Crimped Pony

Spritz your hair with a good iron straight heatspray to protect it during heat styling. Blow dry your hair straight and smooth. Make baby braids along the sides of your head and secure them with elastics. If you're short on time, seal the braids by pressing them with a flat iron. If not, you can let the braids rest for half an hour and have them set on their own.

Untie the braids after some time to get a cool, crimped texture. Gently run a fine brush through them to break the tight curls. Gather your hair and tie it in a ponytail at the nape of your neck, on the side or at the back of your head. Spritz some fine control hairspray to set your hairstyle for longer wear!
