As a busy mom, you probably don't even have enough time to grab some breakfast, let alone primp in front of the mirror styling your hair every morning! We totally get it. But, why let your survival-mode lifestyle get in the way of looking good? We've rounded up some super easy hairstyles for busy moms that you can create in 5 minutes or less.
Most of these hairstyles work with any texture of hair – straight, wavy or curly, so you don't need to worry about advanced styling just to get your mane to look gorgeous. Try these hairstyles and step out of the house looking fabulous:
Super Fancy Half-up Hairstyle
If you have been using a barrette clip or hair elastic to make a regular half-up, here's another fancy variation that you can try. It's super easy to create and quite stylish to wear just about anywhere – whether you're dropping your little ones off at school, going to work or running an errand.
To create this hairstyle, spritz your hair with a good quality strand-smoother serum spray and brush your tresses so that they are detangled, smooth and shiny.
Section out the uppermost layer of your face-framing hair and divide it vertically into two halves; fold the left half over the right one at the back of your head and secure the ends with a couple of bobby pins. Pull out a few wisps on the sides to lend a romantic appeal to your hairstyle and finish off with a light spritz of fine-hold hairspray to tame flyways and keep your style in place the entire day!
Layered Low Ponytail
Here's another interesting hairstyle that you can create in under 5 minutes. The styling technique is the same as in the hairstyle above. However, instead of wearing your hair loose, you create a ponytail with multiple layers.
To create this hairstyle, start folding your hair sections on top of one another from the back of your head all the way down to the nape of your neck; keep tucking in bobby pins as you go to secure the folds. Create 4-5 layered folds with medium-length hair and leave the ends loose to create a low ponytail.
This hairstyle is slightly on the cool-casual side, but you can make it work for the office too by creating tight layers and finishing off with a generous spritz of hairspray to prevent them from budging.
Low Messy Bun
This is literally the easiest way to style your hair on a rushed morning! Low messy buns are in major fashion this season and there's no reason why you should miss out on looking trendy and chic, even if you're a mom! Here's how you can create a no-fuss low bun in a couple of minutes:
Work in a small amount of frizz remover cream through your tresses to make them smooth, soft and manageable. Gather your hair at the nape of your neck (or on the side, if you like!) and make a low ponytail using a hair elastic. Twist your ponytail all the way to the end (just like a rope) and twirl it around to make a bun. Secure the bun with bobby pins as you go.
Alternatively, while making a low ponytail, pull your hair only half way through the elastic to make a super loose one-fold pony at the nape of your neck. Wrap the end of your pony around the elastic to cover it up and secure it with bobby pins to make a messy low bun! Use more pins to secure any straggling hairpieces at the base of the bun and you're ready for anything!
Romantic Braided Bun
While a braid cleverly helps to conceal dirty roots, a bun keeps all your hair in place; when merged together, you get a hairstyle that is ultra-feminine, romantic and very easy to create!
A braided bun looks good on all women, irrespective of their face shape. Here's how you can create this simple hairstyle:
To prep your 2nd, 3rd or 4th day hair for styling, spritz some dry shampoo on the roots to make them look clean, fresh and voluminous. Comb your hair thoroughly to remove tangles and knots. Create a side part and section off about 1-2 inches of face-framing hair on the side opposite the part. Plait this section across your hairline to make a regular braid or a French braid and secure the end piece behind your ear using bobby pins.
Gather your loose hair at the nape of your neck, on the side or slightly above at the back of your head and tie it into a bun. Merge the end of your braid with the bun and tuck in bobby pins to secure your hairstyle. Finish off with a generous spritz of your favorite hairspray to set your style for longer wear!
Styling tip: Instead of a side braid, you can also create two braids and merge them together with your bun to create a Greek-inspired braided crown updo!
Full Braided Bun
Do you know why we think a braided bun is a perfect hairstyle for busy moms? You can make half of it the night before and fix the other half next morning!
To make this hairstyle, you should have at least shoulder-length hair. Spritz some strand-smoother serum spray through the lengths of your tresses to make them smooth, shiny and easy to style. Brush your hair thoroughly and gather it in a ponytail at the back of your head.
Braid your ponytail all the way to the end and secure it using an elastic. Your hairstyle is half-done! Next morning, just coil the braided pony around the base of the elastic and secure it into a bun using bobby pins. Spritz some fine-hold hairspray to tame flyways and smooth out your hair using the back of your hairbrush!
Tip: If you are actually planning to make this hairstyle at night, go for a low side pony, as it'll be easier to sleep in. Next morning, simply coil it into a low side bun.
Chic Donut Bun
Looking for a chic updo, mama? Go for a donut bun to look super stylish and in-control.
Making a donut bun is easier than it looks. You don't need to visit a salon to tuck every strand of hair in place and get a perfect finish. We'll tell you how to create an on trend bun in 5 minutes using a hair donut that you can purchase at any cosmetics store or drugstore.
Gather all your hair in a smooth ponytail at the top of your crown or at the back of your head – wherever you want to wear the bun. Spritz your ponytail with some fine-hold hairspray to lend it texture and hold. Pull your ponytail through the hole of the hair donut, making sure you don't leave out any loose strands. Use a couple of bobby pins, if required, to secure the donut at the base of your pony.
Divide your hair into 3-4 sections and roll each section under the donut, securing the ends with bobby pins. After you're done rolling and tucking all the hair sections, use a tight hair elastic to secure the ends of your hair in place. Tuck in a few more pins to ensure that your donut bun is secure. Mist your updo with some hairspray and you're good to go!
Braided crowns are one of the hottest on trend hairstyles of this season; the good news is you can create this intricate hairdo within minutes! Start off by working in a small amount of frizz remover cream through your hair to make your tresses soft and smooth. Brush your hair to detangle knots. Create a middle part and make two 1" thick face-framing braids on either side of the hair part, securing the ends with hair elastics. Pull the braids at the back of your head and secure them with bobby pins! That's it – you're ready to face the day looking your very best!
Just like all other hairstyles discussed above, the braided crown too can be worn anywhere and everywhere!
