Summer is just around the corner so there's no better time to start thinking about cute, practical updos. To this end, braids are just perfect. They're pretty, versatile and they keep your hair exactly where you want it – i.e. off your face and neck when the weather warms up. Two great all-up 'dos that we just love are milkmaid braids and a crown braid.
The question is, which look would you go for?
The time saver
Essentially just two plaited pigtails pulled up into a headband, milkmaid braids are very easy to achieve. All you have to do is split your hair into two halves and tie into pigtails. Then, braid both of them, tie the ends and pin over the top of your head. Finish with a mist of Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Bold Control Hairspray to eliminate flyaways and give your style some staying power.
The princess look
With more of a Game of Thrones feel to it, a crown braid is fairytale chic at its finest. A little more complicated to style – see our tutorial for detailed instructions – it has a softer silhouette that looks pretty on just about anyone. Once you've got the technique down pat, it gets a whole lot easier to style, too. Again, finish with hairspray to help hold everything in place.
Both of these styles are great braided options but if you're looking for something quick and easy, milkmaid braids probably have the edge. On the other hand, if you're prepared to put in a little extra styling time, the crown braid is more wearable, not to mention more forgiving.
What do you think? Which style do you like best?
