Of the several classic men's hairstyles that are making a big comeback this season, we absolutely love the Ivy League blowback! It's neat, it's polished and it's the signature hairstyle of men who love to look well-groomed.
Here's everything that you'd like to know about the Ivy League blowback hairstyle:
What is it?
The Ivy League blowback is one of the classiest short hairstyles for men. Also known as the Princeton or the Harvard clip, it is a slightly longer variation of the classic crew cut and comprises two interesting features:
First, the hair is tapered twice – once one the sides and at the back (vertical taper) and the second time around the top of the head; and
Second, while the sides and back are tapered semi-short, about an inch of the front face-framing hair is slightly longer than the rest of the hair on the top.
While this is a suitable hairstyle for all hair textures – straight, wavy or curly, you can tell your hairstylist how short you want your taper to be. Go super short à la Matt Damon or keep the forelock slightly longer like Joe Manganiello!
How to style it?
An Ivy League hairstyle not only looks very tidy, it is quite easy to style too!
Since the hairstyle is a classic, it isn't brushed up or spiked, but worn with a side part. Generally, a good quality hair styling wax, pomade or a clean style gel is all you need to style your hair.
The texture of the hair product helps to create a voluminous effect when you comb your hair with your fingers. A hairbrush or comb on the other hand, makes your hair fall flat, so it's best avoided!
Work in a tiny amount of product through your mane, create a sharp side part (preferably at your temple) and use your fingers to sweep your hair to the sides. You can leave a small fringe hovering over your forehead to add a sharp character to your hairstyle.
Wear this low maintenance hairstyle to work or indeed but just about anywhere!
