The red carpet at the VMAs was teeming with famous faces and incredible hairstyles, notably from Taylor Swift and her #squad. Among them was Tay Tay's BFF and renowned super model Karlie Kloss, rocking her signature mid-length blowout hairstyle. Simple and effortlessly chic, Karlie's 'do was one of the beauty highlights of the whole night!
Blowouts are everything
The humble blowout might not seem like the most glamorous, red carpet-ready look, but Karlie proved that with a little volume and a sultry, tousled finish, it absolutely can be!
The key to transforming your regular daytime blowout into a sexy, nighttime look is texture. The hair should look mussed, but not messy, ruffled not wrecked. Think bedhead, but with more control than a night's sleep will naturally bestow upon your locks.
Styling tips
1/ Boost volume
When blow-drying your hair, flip your head upside down for the last few minutes. Blasting the roots will lift the hair and create a full bodied finish right off the bat. To add more volume once the hair is totally dry, spritz the roots and lengths with a volumizing hairspray, then scrunch it in with your hands.
2/ Add movement
A few large waves will give your blowout movement and a light, airy finish. If you're not super comfortable using a round brush, cheat with a large barrel curling iron. A 1.5 inch or 2 inch barrel will give you flowing curves in a couple of minutes. Just don't forget to apply a heat protectant first!
3/ Create texture
Scrunch some flexible-hold putty through the ends to enhance the texture. Really work it in with your hands, but take care not to over-apply as this can create build-up and make your hair look too piecey. Finish your blowout with plenty of strong-hold hairspray and you're done!
