Jennifer Lopez had quite an evening at the 2015 Billboard Latin Music Awards where she performed a moving tribute to the late Selena Quintanilla (the Latin singer whose biopic gave JLo her big break), and rocked both the stage and red carpet with a slicked back hairstyle. It was the perfect 'do for the occasion as it kept Jen's hair off her face, ensuring the focus remained solely on the music.
Why you should try slicked back hair
You don't have to be performing in front of thousands of people to be able to pull off a slicked back hairstyle. In fact, any time you want your face, or what you're saying, to be what people pay attention to, give it a try.
If you're not so keen on the idea of a hairstyle with a wet look finish, fear not. You try a wavy blowback for a softer, more natural-looking style instead!
1/ With gel
Detangle your hair, then use only a small amount of gel to sweep your hair off your face and fix it in a slicked back position. You only need to use the bare minimum, so start with a dime sized amount of gel and add more as needed. At the sides, secure the hair behind your ears with bobby pins for extra hold.
2/ With hairspray
When blow-drying your hair, blow it away from your face to fix it in a swept back position. When your hair is completely dry, mist a boar bristle hairbrush with plenty of hairspray and run it through your hair to tame flyaways and give your style great hold, then fix the sides with bobby pins as above. When you're done, spritz your hair all over with some more hairspray to finish.
