If you're thinking about getting your very own bob hairstyle, there are a lot of great reasons to try one, including the fact it's right on trend and incredibly versatile to boot. If you already have one, you might be looking for some new and interesting ways to style it.

In any case, we have a few messy, cool and easy to achieve ideas that might just make you see the bob cut in a whole new light.

Top styling tips

The main thing is to make sure your bob doesn't sit too heavy. You want a look that frames your face delicately, without creating a strange frame and making your features appear different or more intense than they actually are. To do this, all you have to do is get a few layers cut in, going slightly shorter at the nape of your neck in order to avoid a look that splays out too much at the ends.

Styles to try

If you're feeling particularly wild, try an artfully dishevelled look. To achieve this, all you have to do is work in a little matte styling paste with your fingers and tousle and scrunch your hair until you're happy with it

Rippled curls are also a great, easy look to do. Simply use small curling irons to curl your hair all over and then brush through for a smooth, glamourous effect.

For the more rebellious among you, there's always the wet look. This basically involved running regular strength gel through all of your hair and smoothing over with a comb. This style definitely isn't for the faint hearted but it'll definitely get you noticed.

Alternatively, try a messy wet look. This approach has a slightly more rock & roll edge to it and means that you get to mess things up a little. After combing the gel through, use your hands to muss your hair for extra texture.

Finally, there's always the classic sleek look. Straight, fuss-free and totally chic, a smooth bob can work for any occasion. All you have to do is blow-dry it straight and then use a flat iron to make sure there isn't a hair out of place.

However you decide to style your bob, just remember to be generous with the heat protection products!
