Amongst the countless awe-inspiring hairstyles that we saw at Paris Fashion Week this seaon, we absolutely loved Jada Pinkett Smith's edgy faux-hawk hairstyle. We know that Mrs. Smith has a gorgeous bob haircut, which she styled into a faux hawk. But who said we couldn't replicate the androgynous hairstyle with medium-length tresses, without actually getting the bold haircut!
So, for those of you who don't want to shave off half of your hair to try this super edgy hairstyle, here's a step by step tutorial on how to have a dry run with the on-trend faux hawk without getting a haircut...
You'll need:
- A strand smoother serum spray
- Bobby pins
- A fine-toothed comb
- A tousle waves hairspray (optional)
Get the Look
Step 1
Apply some strand smoother serum spray through the lengths of your hair; brush your hair thoroughly to spread the product evenly throughout your mane, detangle all knots and lend a soft shine to the strands.
Step 2
Flip all your hair to one side (whichever side feels more natural) and make a side part.
Step 3
If you have medium-length hair, pin up the smaller section on the side using bobby pins.
Step 4
Section off about 4-5 inches of face framing hair on the other side of your hair part. This section will stay loose. If you want, you can spritz some tousle waves hairspray on the strands and scrunch them with your fingers to achieve a wavy texture.
Step 5
Roll under the ends of the rest of your hair and secure them at the base of your neck using bobby pins.
Step 6
Spritz your faux hawk hairstyle with a generous amount of strong hold hairspray and set the look for longer wear.
Styling tip: You can also make a faux hawk with a long bob and go for the wet look finish. Just apply a small quantity of styling gel through your hair and follow Steps 2 – 6
So, does an edgy faux hawk suit you? Would you dare to get this edgy haircut this fall?
