Long, flowing mermaid-style waves are the stuff hairstyle dreams are made of and, for anyone with shoulder-length hair or longer, it's a dream that can be realized! Creating a hairstyle like this is actually a whole lot easier than it looks and it might even take less time than you think.

It all depends what hair type you have when figuring out exactly how to achieve this siren-like look.

For curly hair

If you have natural curls, all you need are some products that will help to define and relax them to get sleek, low-key waves. Elastic Curl Mousse adds definition and movement to curly hair while Curl Taming Cream helps to fight frizz and keep your curls beautifully smooth all day (& night!) long.

Both need to be applied to damp hair before drying with a diffuser. Once hair is dry, finger comb your hair to finish.

For straight or wavy hair

For those of you with naturally quite straight or only slightly wavy hair, this hairstyle requires a slightly different approach.

Starting with damp hair, apply Tousle Waves Spray all down the lengths. Then, take a medium-sized strand of hair and twist it. Keep holding the twist and blow-dry completely. Repeat until all of your hair is dry and then finger comb hair to break up the curls. Fix with hairspray to finish.

Get creative

Once you have your mermaid waves all figured out, you can then experiment with all kinds of textured updos, braids, ponytails... the possibilities are endless.

Happy styling!
