As male icons go, they don't come much cooler than James Dean. The original Rebel Without A Cause remains a go-to source of style and grooming inspiration for men everywhere, almost 60 years after his death. Even Ryan Gosling can't compete. Dean's trademark hairstyle had it all: volume, a slight wave and a seemingly effortless 'devil may care' finish. To find out how to recreate it, check out the video tutorial above!
How to style it
Take a small amount of flexible hold product and warm it in your hands. This will emulsify it, making it easier to apply.
Starting at the hairline, work the product back through your hair. Start with a dime-sized amount, then add more as needed to avoid over-applying.
Separate the hair a little by raking your fingers through it.
Plump and shape with your hands to finish.
The cut you need
The right haircut makes all the difference when recreating this style. So, ask your barber or stylist to keep the sides at a medium length with the hair left longer on top of your head. You should aim for a seamlessly blended 2:1 top to sides ratio- where the hair is twice as long on top as it is on the sides. It's also important to note that medium to thick hair with a slight wave lends itself perfectly to this style whereas very fine hair won't hold up so well.
What do you think? Could this classic hairstyle become your new signature look?
