Regular braids and fishtail braids are everywhere and have been for a while now. They're both gorgeous and incredibly versatile but wouldn't it be nice to have an alternative option? That's where rope braids come in. As seen on runways for the likes of Fendi, Rachel Zoe and more, they create a totally different look that is still super wearable.
Rope braids and twists are also perfect for anyone who takes a simple approach to styling. You can rope braid a ponytail, add mini rope braids to a loose tousled style or even create a rope bun! All you have to do first is master the technique...
Take your time
When you do a rope braid for the first time, it can feel a little bit like crazy multi-tasking but, once you get the hang of it, it's actually pretty easy. In fact, it's actually a whole lot easier - and faster - than a fishtail can be. Just take your time and don't rush. With a little concentration, you'll be done before you know it!
Step one: Take a section of hair and split it equally in half.
Step two: With a section in each hand, twist both of them anticlockwise.
Step three: Once both halves are twisted all the way down, wind them clockwise around each other (to the right.) As you do so, keep twisting the individual strands anticlockwise.
To make this a little easier, twist only one strand at a time as you wind them around each other, just take care not to let the other one come loose.
Step four: Once the braid resembles a rope all the way down, secure with a hair elastic and you're done!
For added hold, mist with Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Weather Control Hairsrpay. This will keep frizz at bay and help make sure your rope braids last all day long.
