The French twist is a classic hairstyle that has been around since forever. It's a timeless updo that is just as wearable for a job interview as it is for a night out on the town and it's a great way of keeping all your hair under control. The perfect hairdo for medium or long hair, the French twist is an absolute must-try look, and one that every girl should have in her hairstyle repertoire!
It's the kind of hairstyle that works in a couple of different ways. You can totally rock a French twist with a ponytail or in the more conventional "all up" way. It all depends on the kind of look you want and what you're comfortable wearing.
Above, you can see an especially sleek approach to the look, spotted at the Carolina Herrera Spring 2014 show. It's quite an intense version but one that commands some serious attention! If, however, you prefer styles that are a little more relaxed, you can skip the slight wet-look effect and style a regular French twist instead.
The choice is yours!
What you need:
Bristle brush
Bobby pins
Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Bold Control Hairspray
Step one: Brush your hair through to remove any knots and/or kinks before you begin styling.
Step two: Define a side part at the front, taking it back to the crown of your head.
Step three: Sweep all of your hair over to one side with a brush to make sure it's as smooth as possible. To keep it in place, secure with a line of criss-crossed bobby pins – as many as you need - down the back of your head, about two inches off-center in the direction you swept it over in.
Step four: Brush the hair back over from the other side and roll it into a banana shape, over the area you just pinned. Secure the banana with bobby pins.
Step five: Mist generously with Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Bold Control Hairspray for long-lasting hold to complete your chic new look!
Top tip
If you want an even less polished look, try teasing your hair before you create the twist. This will add extra texture and volume with a more unkempt, matte finish.
Happy styling!
