Getting a new haircut is a big deal, and making sure you choose one you really love can be difficult. There are so many things to factor in, from your lifestyle to the amount of time and money you're prepared to spend on styling. But there are two things that are more important than everything else: your face shape and your features.
The question is, does your face shape impact the look of your chosen hairstyle more than your features?
Why your face shape is important
The way your hair falls decides how your face shape appears. Sideswept hair can make a wide forehead look narrower, while a lengthy fringe can make the face appear shorter overall. Around the chin, carefully placed layers can either enhance or diminish the size and shape of the jawline.
Why your features are important
There are, without doubt, a few "golden rules" that work for each face shape, but the hairstyle you choose should also showcase your features the way you want. It can be all too easy to overwhelm your face with thick layers and bangs, or to hide behind thick, textured tresses in front.
So, before your get your hair cut, talk to your stylist about what you want the end result to do. Do you want to show off your eyes? Highlight your cheekbones? Alter the appearance of your chin or forehead? Really think it through, then let your stylist know what your goal is.
Which one decides?
Your face shape and your features are equally important when choosing a new haircut and you should definitely consider them both when planning a new look. Simply put, each combination is different and there is no one-size-fits-all rule!
