Three bun hairstyles to try

As far as updos go, the bun is one of the best. It's been around almost as long as hair itself and has evolved to include a whole range of different styles, going beyond the classic ballerina look. Not only that, it's also the perfect cure for a bad hair day.
Although there are a ton of different buns out there, we've picked out some of our favorites that can work just as well at the office, a party or a lazy Sunday.

The strict bun
This is basically a ballerina bun. It creates a polished, refined look and is perfect for formal/serious occasions. Hairspray everything generously and use your hands to smooth down the hair that lies flat against your head. Just make sure to smile often and maybe team your bun with a playful lip color. You don't want to look overly severe...
The messy look
This topknot style, alternatively known as a pineapple, basically just involves pinning hair up into a loose bun, pulling out a few strands here and there and, if you feel like it, teasing hair for extra volume and chaos. It's all about looking effortlessly cool.
The braided bun
Finally comes the most intricate bun of all. Whether you prefer a bohemian fishtail or a regular braid style, a braided bun is pretty, feminine and pretty easy to recreate. Simply secure your hair into a ponytail – high or low, the choice is yours – and braid away. When you're done, wind the braid around to form the bun and secure with as many bobby pins as you need. For a laid back, romantic look, braid loosely and pull out some random strands of hair.
