Braiding is one of those things that can seem really easy for some people and downright impossible for others, especially with a fishtail technique. To make things easier, we have some easy-to-follow instructions that absolutely anyone can use to create the herringboned marvel of a hairstyle they've been dreaming of!
How to style it
Step 1
Brush or comb your hair through to remove any tangles before you begin. A surprise knot can be frustrating, and it might cause you to lose concentration while braiding.
Step 2
While you're learning, a side braid is the easiest positioning to work with, so, sweep your hair over one shoulder, then divide it into two roughly equal halves.
Step 3
While keeping the two halves separate, take a small piece of hair - slightly smaller than the width of a pencil - from the outside of the left half. Place it over the top of the left half, then join it to the inside edge of the right half. By inside edge, we mean the middle of the braid. Don't tuck the piece underneath, just gather it with the rest.
Step 4
Take a piece of hair from the outside of the right half, lay it over the top of the right half, then gather it on the inside edge of the left half.
Step 5
Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you get to the ends, then secure with a hair tie.
Step 6
To loosen the braid, gently pull it out slightly with your hands, then complete the look with a generous mist of Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Bold Control Hairspray. That's it!
Just remember, practice makes perfect (and pretty).
