One 'out there' hairstyle that a lot of people would secretly like to try out for a day is dreadlocks. They just look really cool, have a grungy edge and a texture that no other style can boast. They also completely transform your whole appearance. But, real dreads take time and not everyone wants to make such a big hair commitment. The good news is, you can get a dread-inspired look that's only temporary with a few styling tricks.
At New York Fashion Week, models at the Zero + Maria Cornejo Fall 2014 show wore their hair in mussed braids, twists and tousles, creating a look that - from a distance - could totally pass for dreadlocks, without weeks of preparation!
If you're looking for a long hairstyle with plenty of original-looking texture, you might have just found what you're looking for...
Devil's in the detail
If you want to create this look, you'll need to focus on the little things. The more you have going on in your hair, the more dread-like it will appear. Start by braiding several different half-inch sections and use your fingers to muss them afterwards.
Adding small rope braids, like the models pictured above, is another great way to add more texture. To do this, take a section of hair and split it in two. Twist both sections separately but both in the same direction - to the left. Once you reach the ends, wind them together in the opposite direction - right - while still twisting the separate sections individually to the left. It probably seems a little bit like patting your head and rubbing your belly, but it is way easier than it sounds!
Finally, use a matte product such as Advanced Hairstyle TXT IT Hyper Fix Putty to twist and tousle more small sections of hair, half and inch or less.
Do you dare?
Of course it all depends on your daily routine but the chances are this isn't a look you'll want to wear for a job interview or anything like that. On the other hand, it's perfect for a weekend because you'll have extra time to style it, and it can be dressed up with intense eye makeup for a night out look!
