Bad haircut fix - what to do when it goes "wrong"

Sometimes, your stylist can just get it totally wrong, leaving you no choice but to run out of the hair salon with whatever remains of your hair before you start to cry. Well, perhaps that's a little extreme, but with misunderstandings about the cut you want and the cut you eventually get, it can feel like your hair is no longer your own and that you're better off making a break for it.

Whatever you do, just don't try and fix it by cutting it yourself. This will only result in a look that is approximately ten times worse in about half a nanosecond. Instead, explain to your stylist that you're not happy with the cut, and they should fix it for you, just be very clear about what you want.

In the meantime, you need to figure out how you're going to style it, in order to create a look you can live with. That's where we come in. With some carefully planned styling and the right products, you can wear your hair with pride, however messed up you think it is!

Short bangs?

If you find yourself with bangs of a curiously short nature post-cut, the best thing you can do is use a little heat to style them as flat and straight as possible, to make them look longer.

After applying a heat protectant such as Advanced Hairstyle SLEEK IT Iron Straight Heatspray, blow-dry while holding your bangs by the ends. Just remember to keep the dryer moving to avoid frying your fringe.

Play with your part

One thing that is guaranteed to make your accidental cut look completely different - better, even - is to move your part around. If it's dead center, try moving it an inch or two either side and see what happens. You should also play around with deep side parts - on whichever side you feel most comfortable with - to what works best.

The great thing about accessories is that they can be used to hide a multitude of sins, including a bad/odd haircut. Headbands in particular are great for this as they can be used to push back unruly bangs and to create a simple updo to hide any layered ends you don't like! Alternatively, braid a headband with your own hair for a pretty, romantic look.

Take a deep breath

Finally, take a step back and relax a little. Hair re-grows and ponytails are always an option! Failing that, now might be the perfect time to jump on board with the wet-look trend...

So, you have a few options and this haircut is definitely not the end of the world. Who knows, you may even end up liking it!
