Updos serve many different and often useful purposes, one of which is to showcase a great makeup look, whether it's a new one or a tried and true trademark. Of course, this can be done with a simple pony or bun but we think it's nice to change things up a little from time to time and get more creative with the texture of your hair when styling.

This side-swept, retro-inspired look – complete with bangs! – is a very versatile look and definitely one that warrants a little test drive. In the photo, the model is wearing a relaxed, casual outfit but this kind of hairstyle works just as well with more formal, polished attire.

So, whether you're headed to the boardroom or the bar, this could be your new favourite hairstyle...

What you need:

Advanced Hairstyle CURVE IT Elastic Curl Mousse
Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Bold Control Hairspray
Curling iron
Bobby pins

That may seem like a long list but you'll be surprised about just how simple this style is to recreate.

Step one

After towel-drying hair, use a comb to define a deep side part. Then, apply Elastic Curl Mousse evenly throughout hair and blow-dry using a round brush.

Step two

Once hair is dry, comb it through and work it into a French twist. To do this, first separate the front section of your hair and clip it up while you work on the rest. Then, sweep the rest of your hair from the opposite side to your part right over to the other side of your head. Secure with bobby pins and then roll hair back around to form the twist and secure with more bobby pins.

Step three

Unclip the front section and curl with a large-barreled curling iron. Comb through and pin into place with bobby pins, shaping it into a side-swept curve to help frame your eyes.

Step four

Spray generously with Bold Control Hairspray to lock in your style and that's it!

The eye shadow is all down to you...
