The bun hairstyle is one that can be worn anywhere, anyhow. Now, it seems that something of a 90s revival is happening in the form of the "front bun." This is a style that basically involves a big, messy bun perched not so neatly on top of your head, a little closer to your forehead than the back of your head.
The big question is, can you actually wear a bun like this in the real world?
Not so practical but not so impossible either...
While you might not want to adopt this style for a day at work or a jogging session, it's a nice relaxed alternative to a regular topknot or pineapple for a "day off" look. Like the model featured here, a colourful scrunchie can work really well, especially if you're planning on taking the whole nineties revival thing seriously.
Really, it's just a bun that looks like it's having a lot more fun than most other hairstyles. Sure, it's a little bit out there but sometimes, the good things are.
Get the look
As you might have already guessed, this hairstyle is really easy to recreate.
All you have to do is gather your hair up into a ponytail right on top of your head and then twist it into a loose bun shape before tying into place with your chosen scrunchie. You can, of course, use bobby pins to hold everything in place, as long as you do so in a totally chaotic, messy way.
Top tip: for extra volume, tease your hair slightly before twisting it into a bun.
If nothing else, it's a great shabby chic hairstyle that could look as good for a night out – team with intense eye makeup and a black velvet scrunchie – as it would for a lazy laundry day look.
Happy styling!
