A full, flowing mane of hair is the stuff dreams are made of, especially if your hair is particularly fine or prone to falling totally flat – after you expressly told it not to. The good news, however, is that you can totally fake thick hair with a few clever styling techniques!
If your hair-teasing skills are a little rusty, now might be the perfect time to brush up a little...
Your best side?
Styling your hair into a glamorous side-sweep of some kind is a great way to make it look ten times more voluminous that it actually is... albeit on one side only.
To style: Blow-dry your hair after applying Advanced Hairstyle BOOST IT Volume Inject Mousse. When the hair is about 90% dry, flip your head upside down to dry the rest. This will lift the hair at the root, giving your 'do more body. Once dried, take a tail comb and part your hair really far over on your favorite side (read: whichever one looks best). Sweep all your hair that way and comb it through.
Get bangs
Getting a set of bangs cut in is a great way to make hair look fuller, especially if they're blunt. If you're not quite bold enough to go for an ultra-geometric look, go for something feathery at the ends à la Lea Michele. You could even try a set of clip-on bangs; just make sure you get them trimmed to fit your existing hairstyle.
FYI - Wispy bangs are a no-go as they will only serve to make your hair appear thinner.
Make some waves
Another surefire way to make your hair seem fuller is by curling it. The simple fact of the matter is that curls and waves just take up more space than straight hair, making it look like you have more hair. A no-brainer, right?
To style: Again, blow-dry your hair with Volume Inject Mousse then, once dried, use a curling iron to curl the bottom 2/3 of your hair. At the front, curl the sections nearest your face outward, à la Farah Fawcett, to add extra volume (and a gorgeous little retro twist). Fix with a generous amount of Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Bold Control Hairspray and you're good to go!
Such a tease
Backcombing your hair is perhaps the best way to ramp up the volume, whatever your hair's natural thickness. Teasing at the roots will help create lift and a matte spray like Advanced Hairstyle BOOST IT High Lift Creation Spray will give you long-lasting hold, so your hair won't fall flat during the day! A French twist, vintage beehive or a windswept updo are all great styling options for teased tresses.
Make like an onion
Finally, getting a haircut with a lot of layers is another great way to volumize thinner hair. When layered, your locks will be less inclined to hang limp and straight, giving your style more body and shape. In turn, this will make the hair look fuller and thicker all round.
Happy styling!
