Short bangs can be kind of intimidating, especially if you've had long ones or none at all for a while. The thing is, they just look so good on other people that every so often, it seems totally reasonable to ask ourselves whether or not it could be a good look for us. The answer is, of course, quite possibly... but there's only one way to find out for sure.
If you aren't quite ready to make the cut, however, there are a few things to consider that may help to inform your decision. Your face shape, natural hair texture, inconveniently located cowlicks and the amount of time and effort you put into styling are all huge factors with any bangs, and all of them are amplified with shorter ones. But that's not all.
We've put together a list of five less rule-book sounding reasons to just go ahead and get them.
1. You love your eyebrows and think others should get the chance to appreciate them too
Seriously, short bangs are the perfect photo (well, selfie) frame for bold, well groomed, beautiful brows. Whether yours are big and bushy or mighty fine, short bangs that taper out at the sides will make sure they're a real focal point.
2. You like your forehead
Short bangs will, by definition, expose more of your forehead than, say, a Zooey Deschenel cut. As such, you need to like, or at the very least be prepared to embrace your forehead the way it is. Odds are it's beautiful and no one ever told you!
3. You have a real thing for those young Audrey Hepburn photos
The beauty icon to end all beauty icons is, in our humble opinion, responsible for some of the best short bangs ever to grace the outskirts of a forehead. She nailed it. Fact. (Audrey Tautou comes a close second.)
4. You want to change they way you look without getting a shorter haircut
Bangs are a really simple addition to any cut that are capable of making it look brand new. They change the angles of your face, making it appear in a whole new light.
5. You're prepared to blow-dry them into shape
Whatever your hair washing frequency, you may need to style your short bangs to look a certain way. For this, all you have to do is apply something like L'Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle SLEEK IT Frizz Vanisher Cream and blast 'em. Dry them sideways in one direction, switch, then dry them straight down to finish. After that, you can use a tiny amount of TXT Deconstructing Gum on your fingertips for any final sculpting.
So, feeling brave? Remember, hair grows back...
