During the summer months, a lot of damaging things get up close and personal with your hair, like chlorine, sea salt, and plenty of unavoidable UV rays. These stressors can leave your mane feeling lackluster, exhausted, and in need of a break, especially if you've been on vacation! So, how can you help to restore your strands in time for fall?
1/ Get a trim
If you can, make time for a trim when you get back from your vacation, or just generally toward the end of the summer. This will get rid of split ends, and help to curb any damage.
This one is definitely a no-brainer, but keeping your hair well conditioned is essential when reviving post-summer locks. Start with a nourishing conditioner after you shampoo - which should be a part of your regular hair care routine anyway - then build on that with leave-in products between washes, and weekly hair masks. Working some hair oil through the lengths and ends of longer manes can also help to combat dullness while nourishing the hair, too.
3/ Reduce heat styling
To avoid making any sun damage worse, it's important to cut back on hot tool use whenever possible. Try blow-drying your hair on a cool setting if your texture allows for it, otherwise experiment with techniques like plopping curly strands and air drying perfect waves in a loose bun. To boost volume, you can put damp hair in velcro rolls and leave it to set while you get on with something else (ahem, Netflix).
If you do end up getting a traditional blowout, make it last a day or two longer than usual with dry shampoo to save your tresses from excess heat.
4/ Don't color for a while
While your mane is in recovery mode, try to avoid harsh color treatments as they can dry out your strands, making them brittle and prone to snapping off. The same goes for straightening and perm treatments, too.
5/ Add shine
Damaged hair is less prone to shine than healthy hair, but you can totally cheat your way to a glossy finish with a smoothing finishing spray. Products like Advanced Hairstyle SLEEK IT Strand Smoother Serum Spray eliminate flyaways and give the hair a glowing sheen that'll help you fake it till you make it!
