It's no secret that long, cascading waves and loose curls are 50 shades of gorgeous. With all that natural texture, they open up a ton of different styling options. From updos to down 'dos to half-up/half-down compromises, there are so many possibilities to explore!
Waves and curls lend themselves really well to many styling techniques as they offer more traction than stick straight strands, making it easier to keep everything in place. That's not to say you won't need a stock of hairspray and bobby pins, just, you know, less of 'em. Textred hair also has a lot of natural volume, too, which is another huge (literally) styling plus.
Below, we've put together a little list of five gorgeous hairstyles than can all be achieved with long curly or wavy hair. Each one is really easy to replicate and, to make it even easier, you'll find mini tutorials for all of them.
All you need to do is scroll through and decide which one to try first...
Messy braided pony
This rebranded ponytail is a great look for wavy and curly gals because it showcases your natural texture in a really pretty way while keeping your locks up and out of your way.
To style: Starting with damp hair, apply L'Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle CURVE IT Elastic Curl Mousse evenly throughout and blow-dry with a diffuser. Once dried, Pull it all up into a high ponytail and tie, taking care not to yank it too tightly. Loosely braid your hair all the way down to the ends and secure, before finishing with a veil of hairspray.
As seen on L'Oréal Paris spokesmodel and actress Zoe Saldana, half-up twists are cute, practical and sexy all at the same time. They combine the detail of an updo with the movement of a loose style, giving you the best of both worlds... and a slight princess-y vibe. What is there not to love about that?
To style: After gently towel-drying your hair, apply Advanced Hairstyle CURVE IT Curl Taming Cream and blow dry or leave your hair to air dry naturally if you have the time. Once dried, spray the crown of your head with Advanced Hairstyle BOOST IT High Lift Creation Spray and massage with your fingertips to add volume. Next, take a section from just above your ear and twist it. Do the same on the other side then pull both pieces together at the back and pin. Spray all over with a finishing spray and you're good to go!
The word chignon, which is really just French for updo, sounds super fancy and difficult... but it really isn't. At all. Allow us to prove it...
To style: Gather your hair back and sweep it to one side. Use a few bobby pins down the back of your head - to one side in the direction you sweep it in - then roll it back on itself to create a kind of messy tube and pin that down, too. Tuck the ends into the top, then spray generously with Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Bold Control Hairspray to finish. You can also twist and pin several smaller sections to the back of your head for a more deconstructed look if you prefer.
A really easy way to trick people into thinking your hair is super styled is by making your part a focal point of your beauty look. Though it sounds to good, or too simple, to be true, it changes the way your hair frames your face and updates the whole style.
To style: Some people find it easier to part their hair when wet while others prefer to do it when everything is totally dry. It all depends on your method and how stubborn your hair is. Either way, use a tail comb to trace the line then comb the hair through with a wide-tooth comb to help it all settle into place. When deciding on the location, you can go right down the middle or slightly off-center with this style, it just needs to be accurate. Complete the look with a mist of Advanced Hairstyle SLEEK IT Strand-Smoother Serum Spray and you're good to go!
If you take a wash 'n run approach to styling, a quick side sweep could be the perfect style for you and your curls.
To style: After washing, apply Advanced Hairstyle SLEEK IT Curl Taming Cream and let your hair dry naturally. Part it on one side with a wide tooth comb or just flip it all over with your hands, then finish with hairspray to keep frizz at bay.
