Brushing your hair may seem like second nature - after all, you've probably been doing it since you were a kid - but there are a few easy mistakes you should try to avoid for better results and a shinier, healthier mane.
The wrong brush
If brushing your hair always feels like a chore, it could be because you're using the wrong brush. Each brush has a different purpose, so you need to switch bristles depending on what you want to achieve. Take a look at our hairbrush glossary to find out which brush you need!
Too much / too often
Over-brushing your hair can cause damage, especially if you're making mistake number one. Generally speaking, five strokes or less per section should be enough to detangle and smooth your hair. If this isn't enough, try using a wide-tooth comb to work out any knots, then switch to a brush to finish.
Wet hair
When it's wet, your hair stretches more easily and is a lot more vulnerable than it is when dry. Try getting any major knots out with your fingers, then use a wide-tooth comb to gently detangle the rest.
No prep
Detangling sprays can make brushing your hair a much smoother process - literally. Try applying Advanced Hairstyle SLEEK IT Strand Smoother Serum Spray throughout before brushing your hair to help tame it. Keeping your locks well hydrated with conditioner and the occasional hair mask can also make a huge difference to how easily your hairbrush glides through them.
