1. Wash your hair properly: Frequent shampooing robs your scalp and strands of essential natural oils and triggers a host of hair problems. You need not wash your hair very often, but when you do, use a good quality shampoo that suits your hair type and texture. Use a special shampoo for colored hair. Work in the shampoo properly through your scalp and rinse with lukewarm or cold water for best results.
2. Deep condition your hair: To keep your hair soft, moisturized and problem free, deep condition it at least once a week. Use a good quality conditioner according to your hair type and texture. Always apply hair conditioner after shampooing your hair and leave it on for a couple of minutes before rinsing off your tresses.
If you have fine hair, apply your conditioner only from the mid-shafts down to the end of your tresses. For thick hair, apply a light conditioner all over your head, covering the scalp and the roots too. If your hair is dyed, use a special conditioner suitable for colored hair.
3. Oil your hair: Hair oils provide essential nutrients to your hair, so moisturize your scalp and keep dandruff and other hair problems at bay. Warm up the oil a little bit before applying it on your hair – from the roots to the ends. Use a cotton sponge to spread it all over your scalp and work it in with your fingers. Massage your head gently for the oil to get soaked up. Leave it in overnight or for at least a couple of hours before washing your hair off.
4. Dry your hair naturally: A blow dryer may dry your hair quickly, especially on rushed mornings, but it also wreaks havoc on your tresses, making them look parched and listless. If you really care for your hair and want it to look supple, shiny and beautiful, let it dry naturally. Wrap your wet hair in a soft towel (or even a cotton T-shirt) and let the fabric soak up the excess moisture. If you shampoo your hair before going to bed, just tie your hair up in a bun. Your hair will be completely dry (and slightly wavy!) when you wake up in the morning!
Here's hoping that these hair care tips will help you pamper and protect your beautiful tresses. Try them over the weekend and see what a difference these simple tricks make!
