For the lazy girls out there, this Fourth of July weekend will be spent relaxing, having fun, and generally not stressing out about anything, especially your hair! However, even when we don't want to make any effort with our mane, we still want it to look amazing, which is where the oh so easy Independence Day hairstyles below come in.
All you need to do is scroll down and choose one to try first!
1. Easy braid with a ribbon
For a quick and very cute hairstyle, try this easy low braid. You can put a patriotic spin on the look by swapping the black ribbon for something red, white or blue, and this hairstyle is the perfect way to deal with day two hair!
Add shine to the lengths of your hair by applying a glossy finishing spray like Advanced Hairstyle SLEEK IT Strand Smoother Serum Spray before braiding it. It will tame any existing flyaways and add shine to your locks.
2. Day two blowout
If you made a lot of effort to do an at-home blowout, really make the most of it by reviving your tresses for a second or third day with dry shampoo! To protect the movement through the ends, all you need to do is sleep with it pinned into a low bun.
After applying Advanced Hairstyle BLOW DRY IT Longwear Spray to your roots, let it sit for at least five minutes before brushing it out. This will give the dry shampoo formula enough time to absorb excess oil at the roots effectively.
3. Airy updo
Another really easy way to deal with dirty hair is to create a ton of volume on top, then gather the lengths into a knot at the back. If anyone asks, it's an airy updo, rather than a day two compromise. You can throw in some cute accessories to add some extra detail- make them red, white and/or blue for a Fourth of July centric look!
When teasing your hair, use a fine-tooth comb to push the hair back on itself, take it out, and repeat. Don't repeatedly work the comb up and down as this will rip through your hair and can cause unnecessary breakage.
4. Tousled low braid
This particular low braid is perfect for making bed head hair presentable, or dealing with post-pool tresses after they've had time to air dry in the sun! Again, feel free to add a ribbon to get into the patriotic spirit!
Before leaving your hair to air dry, spritz a texturizing spray like Advanced Hairstyle TXT IT Tousle Waves Spray from roots to ends. Twist your hair with your fingers as it dries to create natural looking movement, then loosely braid it all once your tresses are completely dry.
5. Twisted chignon updo
When you want to put your hair up but are kind of over ponytails and topknots, try a twisted chignon instead. All you need to do is tie your hair into a mid-height ponytail, then twist and pin individual pieces to the back of your head until all of the pony has been used up. The result will be an updo that looks super complicated and intricate!
For a temporary Fourth of July hair color update, use hair chalk on your ponytail before pinning it up.
6. Ribbon ponytail
If you really want to wear some star spangled Fourth of July hair accessories, one of the cutest ways to do it, not to mention the easiest, is to tie a ribbon around the base of a ponytail. With a low placement, this hairstyle is effortlessly chic, even though it'll only take you a minute!
For added polish, straighten your hair before gathering it into a ponytail. Just make sure you apply a thermal protectant like Advanced Hairstyle SLEEK IT Iron Straight Heatspray beforehand to prevent heat damage.
7. Defined curls
When you have naturally curly hair, creating a frizz-free, defined look is more than enough work for a lazy weekend morning. So, when you're done, let your curls speak for themselves! All that movement is so gorgeous it'd be a shame to hide it in an updo. If you really want to give your style another dimension for the Fourth of July, however, try wearing a flag print headband.
Whether you use a diffuser or plop your hair to dry, apply a smoothing product like Advanced Hairstyle CURVE IT Curl Taming Cream beforehand to protect your curls from frizz and flyaways.
8. Braided bun
A braided bun is one of those hairstyles that looks a whole lot harder than it actually is. All you have to do is tie your hair back into a ponytail, braid it, and pin the braid into a bun. A loose three-strand braid will only take a minute or two, and you can add a ribbon or chalk the lengths of your pony for Independence Day!
This hairstyle also works with pigtails, too. Simply secure your hair into two low bunches, then braid and pin them into two separate low knots.
9. Zoe Saldana's half-up waves
Half-up hairstyles are a lazy girl staple, whatever the occasion, and Zoe Saldana's wavy look is perfect for when you want something that looks styled, but that won't actually take very long. The Bardot-esque height at the crown makes this 'do look a bit more special than just pinning the top layers back, and it adds a sultry sixties vibe.
To make sure your hair doesn't fall flat, spritz the roots with a volumizing spray like Advanced Hairstyle BOOST IT High Lift Creation Spray before teasing it at the crown.
10. Messy knot
If you need to style your hair for a post-party brunch, but don't necessarily have the energy to wash and dry it first, a messy knot is a real lifesaver. Shake a few tendrils loose at the front before securing it to soften the look, then dress it up with a bold lipstick before heading out.
To loosen your knot after pinning it in place, gently slide your fingers under the hair on top and slowly lift them.
11. Fishtail braided pigtails
Anyone with long hair knows just how fantastic braided hairstyles are when you need your mane to look styled in a hurry, like these fishtail braided pigtails. All you need to do is detangle your tresses first, then get braiding!
These pigtails look awesome with plenty of texture, so when you're done braiding, roll each pigtail between your palms to rough it up around the edges, then gently pull it out at the sides.
12. Half-up bun
If you have a killer Fourth of July makeup look planned and need to keep your hair off your face, try a half-up bun à la Jennifer Lopez. It has all the practicality of an updo without hiding the lengths of your hair.
Eliminate frizz by protecting your finished half-up bun with plenty of hairspray. It'll seal your strands against any humidity that might be lingering in the air, just waiting to unleash a frizz storm on an unsuspecting victim...
13. Sleek half-up hair
As with a second day blowout, try refreshing straight hair between washes with a gorgeous half-up 'do like Freida Pinto's hairstyle above. You can quickly curl the ends for added movement, or leave them as they are, it's totally up to you.
For a fast, inexpensive way to accessorize your hair, try crisscrossing your bobby pins at the back. Just make sure they contrast with your hair color so they stand out.
14. Braided headband
When you just want to roll out of bed and go (after a lengthy lie-in, of course) a braided headband is the perfect hairstyle. All you need to do is braid a small piece of hair on each side of your face, then pin it up into a headband!
If you're feeling particularly motivated, use a 1" curling iron to add some waves through the lengths of your hair for a more polished look.
15. Messy bun
One of our favorite ways to deal with wet, shower-fresh hair is to pin it all up into a big ol' messy bun. This hairstyle couldn't be easier, and it'll leave you with messy, beachy waves when you take it down!
Apply a texturizing spray after towel drying your hair to enhance the tousled waviness of your mane when you shake it all out.
16. Accessorized updo
A great quick fix for the Fourth of July is to let your favorite hair accessory do most of the work for you. Simply pull your hair back into a knot or ponytail, then pop a headband on or add a barrette - no convoluted styling necessary!
If you go for a ponytail, wind a piece of hair around the base and pin it underneath to camouflage the hair elastic.
17. Wrapped ponytail
Update your go-to low pony by wrapping a festive ribbon around it to cover an inch or so of length. Not only is this an easy way to jump on board with the Fourth of July theme, it'll also put a high fashion spin on your beauty look.
After misting your finished ponytail with hairspray, smooth down the sides of your head for a sleek, flyaway-proof finish.
